Spice Up Your Halloween Costume with Festive Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a great invention. They provide the ability to enjoy clear vision without cumbersome prescription glasses. They enhance peripheral vision for driving, sports and a host of other activities. They even come in a variety of designs to add pizzazz to Halloween costumes!

Contacts are medical devices. Like all medical devices, there can be risks associated with using them, such as eye infections and corneal ulcers. Luckily, these are easily prevented with proper care and maintenance. First, just like a pair of glasses, contact lenses are prescribed to treat specific vision corrections. Additionally, the cornea has a specific shape and structure. Contact lenses are customized to fit the individual eye.

Following your doctor’s instructions will lead to a successful experience with contacts, whether for Halloween or everyday use.

Follow these instructions to make your contact lens experience a positive one:

- Rub and rinse your contact lenses with cleaner as directed by your doctor.

- Never “top-off” the lens solution in your case. You should always use only fresh solution every night.

- Only use cleaning solution specific to the contact lenses you are wearing. Never use tap water, bottle water, distilled water, lake water, ocean water, saline or saliva.

- Never swim in your contacts or wear your contacts in hot tubs.

- Wash your lens case with soap and water weekly, and replace your contact lens case every 3 months.

- Replace your contact lenses as prescribed.

If you ever notice any discomfort, discharge, itching, burning, redness, pain or blurred vision, take your contacts out immediately and contact your eye doctor.
